The Dizi
The length flute Dizi is a modern version of several length flutes in China. It is often performed in ensembles and rarely solo. Several models know different tunings and lengths ranging up to 42 cm. Of the 12 holes only seven holes function for playing. One hole next to the blowing gets covered with a small thin piece of paper, which fundtions as a membrane creating the typical "fuzzy" sound of this flute.



With several playing techniques, all chromatic notes of the range of two octaves can be played, so the instrument is tuned temperized.
Beware of cheap Ebay models! A good Dizi costs about 100 Dollar and is not compareable to the cheap models sold on Ebay like the one
shown on the picture above. A better tuned model can be seen at my
